La gastronomie se nicherait-elle aussi dans les rations militaires ? D'ailleurs à quoi ressemble une ration militaire ? Ashley Gilbertson qui a photographié celles des soldats de la force internationale en Afghanistan les commente ainsi : "Au début de la guerre d'Afghanistan, au sein des troupes internationales de la base aérienne de Bagram, une ration française de combat (cassoulet, pâté de cerf et nougat) s'échangeait contre au moins 5 rations américaines. Toutefois, depuis peu, les valeurs d'échange ont changé. Un journaliste qui vient de rentrer d'un reportage auprès des troupes françaises, indique qu"elles aiment maintenant rendre visite aux Américains pour un repas". La nouvelle cuisine américaine monte, sur tous les fronts!

Ashley Gilbertson who documented ready to eat meals of international force soldiers in Afghanistan comments : "Early in the Afghanistan war, among the international troops who mingled at Bagram Air Base, a single French combat ration (cassoulet, perhaps, with deer pâté and nougat) could be traded for at least five American Meals Ready to Eat (M.R.E.’s). Recently though, the barter values have changed. A journalist who just got back from an embed with the French said that today they look forward to visiting the Americans for a meal." The new American Cooking is emerging on all fronts !
