We cast an epicurean, quirky, joyful and urban eye over fooding. We do not aim at saving nor feeding the world.

How to Fall in Love in NY

Love is in the Magic Cup says Starbucks even if we are not sure to find LOVE in a coffee mug, but who knows ? Anyway, why not celebrate Valentine's day (even when it's over) with this "Magic Cup" initiative. We like at least the graphics on the cup and the taxi in the back.  The best way to fall in love is probably to have "Breakfast At Tiffany's", then enjoy coffee break at Starbucks. Or maybe just open your eyes and never refuse a coffee to be happy...

Love At Tiffany's

Since Ma Cocotte is providing your door mat with eggs, you could leave some of them in the care of the Japanese artist Yuki Matsueda. Instead of doing that, he would do this:

Mais que préfèrerait Ma Cocotte ?
But what would Ma Cocotte prefer ?

Jelly Bang

This Spring, British jellymongers we are fond of, Sam Bompas & Harry Parr, launch a food explosion service for weddings, reports blogger Cakehead Loves Evil. Trained explosives technicians will lay charges within your wedding cake which you can detonate at the climax of the evening. Bompas & Parrs food explosion service pushes the triumph of  spectacle over taste to its ultimate conclusion. The ritual of cutting the cake is significantly enhanced through the explosion, the sense of occasion heightened by the blast and your guests are spared eating flavourless fruitcake.

The explosions were documented by the British photographer Ryan Hopkinson allowing the disintegration of the jelly to be studied. The images serve to demonstrate the kinetic, social, biological, nutritional and temporal potential of a single dish and ask the viewers to look again at what’s on the end of their spoon. Harry Parr comments:
“Wedding cakes can be brutally stodgy. Blowing the cake up spares the stomach after a heavy meal is a good way to wake guests up for the speeches!”

When the British photographer Rip Hopkins represents cooking principles reinterpreted by  the French chef Pierre Gagnaire and the chemist Hervé This, in the book 'Les alchimistes aux fourneaux' (The alchimists are busy cooking), he delivers a series of very clever photos. On the left hand side, the chemical procedure is portrayed and on the right handside, its culinary interpretation is given by PIerre Gagnaire.

Utopia on the plate

Small utopias have great future and the "French Gastronomy Next Door" concept is a new low cost, very high quality concept.

From Monday to Friday, Yolaine and Carole cook their garden vegetables (they also buy from the cooperative next door) at Verney Park in Chambery. 100% local, 100% organic.

Today, on February 10, Yolaine was cooking when I phoned her. Despite freezing temperatures, she was cooking a gypsy soup over a wooden fire.

They can be reached from 9 am to 19 pm
at "Charette du potager" (Kitchen Garden Cart)
On mornings , you can join them for a coffee-butter-bread breakfast. And your mission, if you accept it, will consist in putting your shoulder to the wheel and peeling vegetable while chatting.

Turnips as a social link, they did it !

Read newspaper is ordinary. But eat it ? The Spanish cook Firo Vázquez can help you. Indeed, in his restaurant El Olivar de Moratalla, he makes edible paper on which he writes with natural inks. Some flour, a bit of oil and squid ink and that's that done ! Recently he cooked for El Paisa 'salad of fresh news', a 'news paper crane with its drumstick in escabeche' and a 'cornet of fried news with wine stuffed cheese'. He can also prepare a words soup for you or deliver Don Quixotte as a main course. For nearly 10 years he has been creating edible papers and currently works with the Department of Technology for Food at the University of Murcia to take his research further. Above all, he suggests guests to play with food and enjoy a visual and tasteful experience.

He has also received a Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2011, for his Mediterranean cooking book, Caminando entre oliveras.

Food & Jokes

EARL GREY TEA - To get out of the fog, there is not better trick

APPLE JUICE - With it, I don’t see the slightest seed of a problem

For the nostalgics of the good old Almanac and caramel-candy wrapper’s jokes, Monoprix’s trendiness is catching up with us!

We all know the one-liners from late-night comedy shows; we now have one-liners from supermarkets.

Created with colors, graphics and words, the in-jokes winks back at the shoppers.

MINI CAKES - Stop butting in with your strawberries, or I’ll turn you into a homemade puree !

Thanks to these puzzling in-house slogans, you feel as the accomplice to Monoprix rather than its dull commercial target. Well done Monoprix !

WAXED PAPER - He had an affair with a pie, but it did not stick

Un garage en cuisine

Huile d'olive en burette - Olive Oil Can

If some people invented computers in their family garage, others are currently shaping culinary design in a former tractor factory. The Deli Garage, a food cooperative based in Hamburg, not only creates original and funny products but also matches their design with its immediate environment.  Drawing on worskshop and building visual references, it delivers elaborate designs with food coloring sprays, olive oil cans or candy tools, as part of these artists-gourmets-craftmen's range of products.

One of their newest creations is a chocolate and stracciatella cake mix. You just have to fill the cake mix into the six accompanying cake moulds that you will have assembled beforehand according to the construction plan you are provided with.

Once Brickstones are cooked, you can build walls and even start your kitchen all over again..
